These 5 Facebook Strategies Will Prepare Your Business for the Holidays
Sept,29,2014
by: Chelsea Hejny
It’s September and my company ShortStack already has a couple months of planning for the holiday season under our belt. Sounds a bit zealous, right? Well, as it turns out, not really. For big corporate companies like Walmart and BestBuy, planning six or more months in advance for the holidays is normal. Why isn’t the case the same for small businesses? While it’s true big brands need more time to prep for the holidays because they’re operating at a large scale, there are still lots of reasons small businesses should start preparing for the season early, too. It’s like warming up before a big game. If you don’t do it, you won’t be able to play at your best. What business doesn’t want to be at playing at their best when Christmas rolls around?  Read More

Your medical record is worth more to hackers than your credit card
Sept,24,2014
by: CAROLINE HUMER AND JIM FINKLE
(Reuters) - Your medical information is worth 10 times more than your credit card number on the black market. Last month, the FBI warned healthcare providers to guard against cyber attacks after one of the largest U.S. hospital operators, Community Health Systems Inc, said Chinese hackers had broken into its computer network and stolen the personal information of 4.5 million patients. Security experts say cyber criminals are increasingly targeting the $3 trillion U.S. healthcare industry, which has many companies still reliant on aging computer systems that do not use the latest security features. Read More

Sept,19,2014
by:  Judy Mottl
Two congressmen are asking the Department of Health and Human Services to develop "clear, easily accessible and up to date regulatory guidance" regarding mobile applications and requesting the federal agency update online technical compliance guidance to help app makers adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
"Many companies creating mobile health apps have told us that they want to fully comply with HIPAA regulations, but have difficulty confirming that they have done so because current regulatory guidance does not cover technologies that they are using," Reps. Tom Marino (R-Pa.) and Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) wrote in a letter sent Thursday to Sylvia Mathews Burwell, secretary of HHS.  Read More

How to integrate emotional intelligence into mobile apps
Sept,22,2014
by: Shane Schick
The best way most mobile developers have to gauge how consumers feel about their app or mobile game is pretty simple: If they download it and use it, they're happy. If it gets uninstalled or is abandoned, they're not.  As issues around app retention, app engagement and the improvements of user experiences become more critical, though, a number of firms are beginning to create application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs) aimed at analyzing a user's emotions much more directly.  Read More

Industrial Marketers: Stop Ignoring Social Media and Get Ahead of Your Competitors

Social media marketing often appears irrelevant to companies in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. While the value of this channel is well-established in b-to-b verticals such as SaaS (software as a service) and business services, industrial marketers who want to move their organizations forward in this space can encounter significant internal objection. One of the most common arguments: "Our audience isn't on social media, so why should we be?"  Read More

Email Marketing: Taking advantage of responsive design [Video]
Sept,,2014

If your experience is anything like the typical email marketer in 2014, a growing portion (possibly a very large percentage) of your list is opening email on a mobile device — maybe a tablet or, more likely, one of the many smartphones out there.
To fully reach and engage that audience, you can either design and build custom emails for every single platform your audience is using …
Or, to make things a bit simpler on the design and execution end of things, take the responsive design plunge for all your email campaigns to ensure your sends have the best look, feel and, more importantly, clickability on any mobile (or non-mobile) platform your recipients use.  Read More

Google+ Social Media Strategies – What You Need to Know
Sept,15,2014
by: Tina Courtney-Brown
No social network invokes the fear, confusion, and outrage that arises when someone mentions Google+. It’s the most controversial platform out there these days, in part because so many business owners can’t seem to quantify if it’s worth the time and effort. Most concur that businesses need to have a presence on the flailing social space, for no other reason than Google wants you to, and Google owns the search stratosphere. SEO value aside, it’s a tough space to unravel.
Rest assured, however, that if you’re crafty, committed, and well-prepared, Google+ can indeed be a marketing boon for your business. There are metrics available now that help decipher what was once an intensely mysterious space. You no longer have to “trust it’s working.” Google+ experts ‘CircleCount’ recently released an interesting and highly valuable infographic and report that helps marketers capitalize in a space that few have truly mastered. Heed their advice, and you’re light years ahead of the pack  Read More

Smartphones, Apps Lending Intelligence to Cars

With a thumb swipe on a smartphone, your car one day will be able to drive into a parking deck, find an open spot and back into a space — all by itself. Technology being honed by French auto parts maker Valeo uses a dozen ultrasonic sound-wave sensors, 360-degree cameras and a laser scanner to safely park within a few centimeters of other vehicles. Then, when you're done with dinner or a business meeting, the car will return to you after another swipe of the thumb. The potential benefits are plenty. More orderly parking means less congestion. Drivers are spared the time and frustration of the hunt for a spot. Parking lots can squeeze more vehicles into limited space.  Read More
