Featured Report: How Smart Wi-Fi Improves Wireless Network Performance

CIO Magazine
Jan,02, 2013
by: Paul Rubens
You're sitting in a conference room in your corporate headquarters, trying to download a file to your smartphone. There's a strong Wi-Fi signal, but the download that's been crawling along has finally ground to a halt. This kind of poor Wi-Fi experience is all too common, and thanks to BYOD programs that allow employees to connect their mobile devices to their corporate networks, things are likely to get worse. Here's why: Wi-Fi is a shared medium, which means that only one person (or device) can use it at any given time--everyone else has to wait. So no matter how strongly your device detects a Wi-Fi signal, the more devices that are using it, the slower it will be for everyone.

2013 Predictions: The year of the mobile enterprise app

Jan,15,2013
by:Mary Britain-Whit
If 2011 was the year of the mobile consumer app, then 2012 was the year mobile tablets conquered IT security in enterprises. So the stage is set for 2013 to be the year of the mobile enterprise app. On this we have two predictions:

1. The over hyped capability of HTML5 will be exposed and its use more reasonably profiled to irregularly used enterprise-to-consumer apps, mobile BI and internal wireless extension of administration functions – like expense or travel claims. The end user demand for apps with speed and the ability to work off line will drive native app development for those business areas that have a substantial return on investment for the company.

Analysts push back against reports of weak iPhone 5 demand

Jan,15,2013
by:Phil Goldstein
Analysts and industry observers moved to counter reports that a cutback in Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) orders for iPhone 5 components indicated a drop in demand for the device. The reports, first from Japan's Nikkei and then also from the Wall Street Journal, caused Apple's stock to drop 3.6 percent yesterday. In the aftermath of the reports, analysts said that the reports might not be accurate. "As far as we can tell, iPhone 5 demand remains robust," Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu wrote in a research note to clients, according to CNET. Similarly, Baird analyst William Power wrote that he was "actually raising our calendar fourth quarter iPhone forecast slightly," and that "most demand indicators remain favorable."

Featured Report: Marketers Search for Mobile Clarity at CES

ClickZ
Jan,10, 2013
by: Matt Kapko
To integrate or not to integrate - that is the question that marketers, brands and agencies are still debating at CES 2013, held in Las Vegas. While online publishers are increasingly pushing for multi-platform buys across mobile, tablet and desktop, there continues to be a wide gap between the mobile first (or mobile only) crowd and those who put their efforts into fully integrated marketing campaigns that reach across platform and device. The answer for most is somewhere in the middle, but that certainly doesn't help brands get the most effective return on their ad spend. The meandering quest for the right mix of marketing and advertising to tablets, smartphones and desktops is nothing new, but the potential audiences available in each channel has shifted dramatically.

The power of location: Why Foursquare should be part of your digital-marketing strategy

Jan,14,2013
by:Jennifer Nedeau
With more than 25 million people on Foursquare and 3 billion check-ins, Foursquare competes with the likes of Instagram (45 million users) and Path (5 million users) and is one of the few successful mobile-only social networks. Since it launched in 2009, Foursquare has become an increasingly helpful tool for local businesses and national brands trying to connect with consumers on a 1:1 level. I witnessed the power of Foursquare recently when I helped to create a partnership between Foursquare and TIME magazine for the 2012 political conventions. Through customized Foursquare content and badges tailored for the convention experience, TIME was able to reach nearly 1 out of 5 people on the ground at the RNC and DNC in a meaningful, relevant and location-specific way. And it is this experience which convinced me to consider Foursquare in marketing campaigns. The good news is that Foursquare recently improved its platform making it more useful for businesses and marketing strategy.

Smart Health Care Strategy Hidden in ‘Cliff’ Deal

Jan,09,2013
by:Peter Orszag
One little-noted provision I was encouraged to see tucked in last week’s fiscal-cliff legislation is Section 601(b): an incentive for doctors to expand their use of something called clinical data registries. These registries collect information on patient characteristics, patterns of care and outcomes that can be crucial to evaluating what medical techniques and strategies work and which ones don’t. Unfortunately, registries are not as widespread as they should be -- and the ones that exist often are limited to particular types of care. Data from insurance-claim forms, in contrast, are easier to obtain and more comprehensive across episodes of care. However, these reveal only which tests and procedures were performed, and tell very little about how the patient fared.

Small Business Healthcare Consortium
Hello Small Business Owners,
I am writing to you because our changing health care system will have a profound effect on all of us. Now that the election is over and the Supreme Court has ruled, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is not going away. It will not be repealed and it is up to us to make sure it will work for small businesses and individuals as it was intended to do. That’s why I joined the Campaign for Better Health Care’s newly created Small Business Health Care Consortium (SBHCC).

This consortium views the needs of small businesses and their employees as a top priority. And, as a member of the Steering Committee of the SBHCC, I am personally inviting you and asking you to invite your network of small businesses to participate in a one hour, educational free webinar about the Affordable Care Act on January 15th at 11:00am CST or January 16th at 3:30pm CST. Discussions around health reform have been confusing and, sometimes, even misleading. It is the goal of this free webinar to provide factual information about the changes that are already happening and those coming in the near future. It will discuss the benefits and opportunities of the ACA and what Illinois small businesses need to do to make sure this law will benefit them.

Follow this link to register for:
January 15th: https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/s/registrations/new?cid=ecg0qj9s21aq

January 16th: https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/s/registrations/new?cid=m2wt2unotbju

Many key components of the ACA are national in nature. For instance, small businesses currently providing health insurance to their employees could be eligible for a 35% tax credit. And, while employers with fewer than 50 full time employees are not required to provide health insurance, their employees can take advantage of the ACA’s benefits. Other components will be implemented at the State level and these decisions will either enhance small businesses or provide another hurdle. One important component is that all states must implement a health insurance exchange (marketplace). These exchanges will include a rate review process with defined, easy to understand plans to consider and review side-by-side. As small business owners we share many of the same, serious business challenges. It is my hope that you and your small business peers do want to learn more about the ACA. Let’s take this opportunity to act collectively to get control of health insurance costs and improve access to coverage.

The opportunity to create positive change is now. It is about fairness and choices for small businesses. Please register:
