President Barack Obama met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, Google computer scientist Vint Cerf and other tech leaders to discuss government surveillance.
Politico is reporting that earlier in the week there was a similar meeting between top administration officials, tech-industry lobbyists and leading privacy hawks, with discussions revolving around the controversy with the NSA. While a spokesperson for the White House has not provided details about the meeting with the president, an administration aide has said this is part of a larger campaign. The official said to Politico, "This is one of a number of discussions the administration is having with experts and stakeholders in response to the president's directive to have a national dialogue about how to best protect privacy in a digital era, including how to respect privacy while defending our national security."

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) reportedly is at work on a gaming console powered by Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system, with a retail launch expected in time for the 2013 holiday shopping season.
Citing sources with knowledge of Amazon's developmental efforts, GameInformer reports the console will run games available for download from the online retailer's Appstore for Android and will include a dedicated controller. GamesBeat notes it has also heard rumblings of the Amazon console, with one developer source revealing that Amazon is actively soliciting content for the hardware, with an emphasis on casual games. Other sources told GamesBeat they question whether Amazon is serious about bringing the console to market, however.
