Average mobile order values higher for retail industry
With nearly half the US population using a smartphone, the share of emails opened on phones and other mobile devices has skyrocketed. For retailers and others sending out marketing messages, this has had some interesting implications.
According to Q3 2013 figures from Yesmail Interactive, an email service provider, 15% of all sales volume generated by emails sent through its service were the result of a click on a mobile email, rather than a message read and acted on via the desktop. For retail the figure was even higher: 18% of all email-generated revenues came from mobile emails.

One social network you've never heard of drives 20% of all social commerce

60 percent of social shopping starts on Facebook. 15 percent starts on Pinterest, and a little five percent wedge begins on Twitter. But there's one network you've probably never heard of that drives more than Pinterest and four times more social shopping traffic than Twitter. It's called Polyvore.
Polyvore is essentially a Pinterest that is explicitly focused on products you might want to buy. And with a slogan like "Discover, shop, and express your style," it's not surprising that even with vastly less social reach than Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or many other social networks, it drives disproportionate amounts of social revenue.

Gift Card Spending To Go Mobile, Set New Record

The world's most practical, versatile and least-thought-required presents are becoming even more popular: A new survey from the National Retail Federation predicts that eight in 10 shoppers will buy at least one gift card this holiday season, with an increasing number purchased via mobile phone. The report, conducted for the NRF by Prosper Insights & Analytics, says that average spending on gift cards will be $163.16 -- up 4% from last year, totaling $29.8 billion. The NRF says that's the highest in the 11-year-old annual survey.
