Featured Report:71 out-of-the-box ideas the healthcare industry would consider if IT controlled reform

by:Chris Seper
If healthcare reform were left to healthcare professionals, we’d have nonprofit insurance companies, tax breaks for gardening materials to encourage good health, mandatory walks every two hours for anyone in a stationary job, and a doctor would take patients’ text messages. That was just a sampling from hundreds of multicolored sticky notes posted by the attendees at this week’s Mayo Clinic Transform conference. White House projects $11.1 billion in Medicare pay cuts under deficit law

Sept,14,2012
By: Rich Daly
The Obama administration projected (PDF) that Medicare will cut $11.1 billion next year due to requirements of a deficit-reduction law. The 2% cut in the $554.3 billion that Medicare projects to spend on providers and insurers in 2013 was required by the Budget Control Act of 2011. Among the 2% in Medicare provider cuts, about $5.8 billion will come from the Hospital Insurance Trust Fund. Read more

Here is the sample provided by the Department of Labor: Click Here

GOP Medicare plans would sock elderly, report says

Sept, 10, 2012
by: Melanie Evans

Republican proposals to replace Medicare insurance benefits with vouchers that seniors could use to buy insurance would drive up healthcare costs for the nation's elderly, said a newly released report from the Center for American Progress Action Fund (PDF) , an advocacy arm for the liberal think tank the Center for American Progress. The vouchers would not grow as quickly as healthcare costs and seniors would be required to pay the difference for plans that exceed the vouchers, the authors said. For Medicare recipients who turn 65 in 2023, it would mean paying an additional $59,500 during retirement, the report said.Read Report
