What Healthcare Reform means for your Illinois Small Business

On January, 15 and 16 th Howard Lee of Wirehead Technology participated in this webinar that also featured Mary Mary Timmel of the Small business Majority and Joyce Harant of the Small Business Healthcare Consortium that focused on what the new healthcare law, the Affordable Care Act, means for Illinois small businesses. It will focus on both federal and state provisions to help local small business owners understand how the law will affect them. Topics being discussed include:

Small business tax credits (available to businesses and tax-exempt)— who’s eligible for them and how to claim them
State health insurance exchanges
High-risk pools
Shared responsibility
Cost containment
Tools and resources available for small businesses interested in learning more about the law

Presenters Bios:
Mary Timmel


Mary Timmel manages Small Business Majority's outreach in Missouri and other midwestern states. Mary builds relationships with small businesses and organizations through listening tours, webinars and panel discussions centered on the Affordable Care Act. Prior to joining Small Business Majority, Mary worked with the Alliance for Climate Protection, building support from individuals and businesses for clean energy legislation. She has also spent years as a healthcare advocate.

Joyce Harant


Joyce Harant Is the Small Business Project Director for the Small Business Health Care Consortium, a project of the Campaign for Better Heath Care. She retired in 2008 after serving 29 years as the President/ CEO of Planned Parenthood Heart of Illinois. Involved in several not for profit boards, Joyce is also a member of the Peoria Illinois County Board of Health. She has a Masters Degree in Community Health from the University of Illinois, Champaign.

Howard Lee


Howard Lee is the CIO of Wirehead Technology a mobile IT consulting company. He has been working in Healthcare for over 10 years. In 2001 he was a speaker at the National Medical Association Convention and an exhibitor at the Radiology Society of North America Expo on the subject of “Mobility in Healthcare”. This year he hosted a seminar at Chicago's Weiss Memorial Hospital called “Understanding E H R”. He is also on the Steering committee of the Small Business Healthcare Consortium and will be working with Business Partners of Uptown Chamber of Commerce on Health and Wellness Wednesday a monthly meeting that will help small businesses understand how the changes in the healthcare laws will effect their business.
