Dell 8-inch tablets face off in Android-versus-Windows cage match

I picked up two new 8-inch tablets last month: the $199 Dell Venue 8, which runs Android 4.2, and the $299 Dell Venue 8 Pro, which runs Windows 8.1. Superficially, there’s not that much to distinguish the two devices. Both are well-made tablets with almost exactly the same dimensions. Aside from the extra $100 in the price tag, what’s the difference? It’s not often that a manufacturer introduces two devices that have so much in common, on different platforms, so this is a real opportunity to do a detailed comparison.

How to Bake Marketing into your business
Small Business Newz
June,02,2013
Jim Connolly

The most successful businesses bake marketing into their services. If you have not heard the term before, baking marketing into a service (or product) means creating something, which is of so much value and interest, that people want to buy it and also tell their friends about it. Most small business owners do the opposite Look around you at your competitors and you will see that with few exceptions, they all seem remarkably similar. So, they try and undercut one another on prices or fees, out network one another or outspend one another on marketing. They are focusing their time and money in completely the wrong direction. They are trying to get people interested in something, which isn't interesting. This is a costly, avoidable mistake. Read Study

Featured Report: Integrating EHR into small practices

Integrating small practices

Health3
HIE Watch
May,30,2013
by:Greg Chittim,

Consider a small primary care practice with five physicians using its own EHR. While they are currently operating "efficiently" in their own minds, why would they consider integrating into a larger Health Information Exchange (HIE) system? This is a common question for many small practices today as it is critical to understand the benefits. An HIE focuses on the storage, analysis and transmission of patient data, often for the purposes of broad-based population management or specific transitions of care. HIEs require the ability to pull or receive data from a wide variety of clinical sources including hospital information systems, laboratory management systems and practice-based EHRs. In today’s world of interoperability, it is important to have individual practices unified in an HIE to drive better and more efficient care - HIEs are only as valuable as the “network effect” they drive, and small practices make up the majority of ambulatory care in the United States.

As interest in personalized medicine continues to grow, healthcare providers and researchers will need to be mindful of genomic data privacy and security challenges, says federal adviser Dixie Baker. by:Staff
Epic Systems and Meditech have the most customers receiving meaningful use incentive payments for using two key categories of electronic health record systems, according to federal data, Modern Healthcare reports. Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments. The findings come from a combination of databases kept by CMS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. The data are current as of the end of February.

EHR Incentive Program
Healthcare Professionals Did You Know? Non-hospital-based physicians and other eligible professionals can obtain incentive payments of as much as $44,000 under Medicare or $63,750 under Medicaid. Under both Medicare and Medicaid, eligible hospitals may receive millions of dollars for implementing and meaningfully using certified EHR technology.

About two-thirds (65 percent) of hospitals and 32 percent of office-based physicians plan to enroll in meaningful use programs by the end of 2012 in order to receive the maximum incentives, according to survey results announced Thursday morning. Fewer federal dollars will be available to hospitals and doctors that wait to adopt EHR technology, and failure to meaningfully use EHRs starting in 2015 will result in Medicare penalties. Watch this video about how to register for the EHR Incentive program.
