Big-Box Stores Like Target Think These New Apps Can Defeat Amazon
Dec,01,2014
by: Lauren Johnson

Not so long ago, retailers struggled mightily to direct shoppers away from browsers and over to their newfangled branded apps without much success. This holiday season, however, might prove to be the apps' tipping point thanks to more sophisticated tools at retailers' disposal, including mobile mapping, payments, price-comparison tools, image recognition features and beacon technology. In fact, these new features might even give retailers a fighting chance against Amazon.
Target, Walmart and Kohl's are all traditional big-box retailers with new, souped-up mobile apps this year aimed at steering shoppers away from Amazon. Target, for example, recently launched store-specific mapping software that helps shoppers navigate its sprawling retail centers. Read More

Image recognition increasingly an app must-have as scanning gains ground
Nov,26,2014
by: Alex Samuely

With major retailers such as Amazon, Target and Macy’s offering image recognition within their mobile applications, the technology is likely to become a must-have although more sophisticated scan-to-shop deployments could remain limited.
Scan-to-buy options enabling consumers to shop directly from a retailer’s catalogs, print ads and in-store signage are increasingly a standard offering. However, more retailers are also scrambling to compete against Amazon and showrooming by and employing image recognition technology that allows consumers to point their phone at any object and receive suggestions for similar products within the brand app. Read More

Twitter Invites Advertisers To Create Offers
Nov,26,2014
by: Gavin O'Malley
Expanding its ecommerce efforts, Twitter is inviting advertisers to create credit-card-connected promotions, and share them with users directly in their timelines.
With their credit cards, users can redeem the new “Twitter Offers” in stores without the need for a coupon or numerical code.
Twitter Offers also represents a new way for marketers to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns across channels, according to Tarun Jain, group product manager at Twitter.
“Advertisers will be able to attribute redemptions directly to their campaigns on Twitter, so that they can effectively measure the ROI from their promotions, even when redemption happens offline,” Jain explained in a blog post on Tuesday.
Twitter is bullish about its place in the ecommerce ecosystem. Most notably, the social giant recently began rolling out a “buy” button in tweets. Read More

How reputation affects success (and 5 ways to improve it)

Oct,07,2014
by:Daniel Burstein
For an ecommerce transaction, trust is essential. While ecommerce has grown significantly, it still requires more confidence for a customer to purchase from an online retailer (where the value of the product and reliability of the store is conceptual) than a brick-and-mortar retailer (where customers can touch and feel a product and take it home instantly). We wanted to test this theory and see how reputation affects overall ecommerce success.
