Survey: Consumer health tech adoption remains low
Dec,22,2014
by: Katie Dvorak
Use of technology to manage healthcare still remains low for consumers, but many of them view devices and apps in a positive light, according to a new survey from consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and research practice Ipsos Public Affairs. For instance, while seven in 10 respondents said they owned a smartphone or tablet, only two in 10 indicated that they used the devices to monitor or manage their health. The older the consumer and the greater their income, the more likely they are to use technology to keep track of their health, according to the report. One of the reasons for low adoption of tech to manage care is security and privacy concerns, according to the report. Because of that, providers must offer secure tools to entice their patients to use them, the authors said.  Read More

What's in your wallet? 'Big data' wants to tell doctors and health plans
Dec,20,2014
by:  Carol Levine
Does privacy still matter? According to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, privacy is no longer a “social norm.” But a recent report from the Pew Research Center found that Americans are indeed concerned about their privacy. More than half (55%) of survey respondents said that the “state of your health and the medications you take” was “very sensitive” information, second only to Social Security numbers. Fewer people considered information about their relationship history (40%), religious or spiritual views (22%), or political views (20%) as very sensitive. At the bottom of the list, only 8% considered “basic purchasing habits” very sensitive. Read More

The Question Your Doctor Should Be Asking You — but Isn’t
Dec,29,2014
by: Mandy Oaklander
The last time you went to the doctor, were you asked how much soda you drink? Probably not, but at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, it’s now among the standard questions doctors will ask—and then log into the patient’s electronic health record. Those records, analyzed in a new study, reveal some interesting connections between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption and a slew of health problems. Read More

High noon for federal health records program?
Dec,28,2014
by: ARTHUR ALLEN
Vast spending, frustrating software, angry doctors facing a punch in the wallet — and a hungry new Congress. It could add up to a powerful threat to the Obama administration’s $30 billion program to digitize the nation’s medical records.
Many doctors hate the clunky, time-sucking software they got through the massive subsidy program, and most complain that cumbersome information exchange is frustrating their efforts to coordinate and improve patient care. A quarter-million — half of those eligible for the electronic health records program — will face fines in 2015 for failing to use the systems in the way the government required. State Medicaid officials don’t know how many of their doctors are using electronic records, although they have handed out $9 billion of those federal funds to encourage their adoption. Nor do they have much sense of how much the technology is helping low-income patients. Read More

These 5 Facebook Strategies Will Prepare Your Business for the Holidays
Sept,29,2014
by: Chelsea Hejny
It’s September and my company ShortStack already has a couple months of planning for the holiday season under our belt. Sounds a bit zealous, right? Well, as it turns out, not really. For big corporate companies like Walmart and BestBuy, planning six or more months in advance for the holidays is normal. Why isn’t the case the same for small businesses? While it’s true big brands need more time to prep for the holidays because they’re operating at a large scale, there are still lots of reasons small businesses should start preparing for the season early, too. It’s like warming up before a big game. If you don’t do it, you won’t be able to play at your best. What business doesn’t want to be at playing at their best when Christmas rolls around?  Read More

Employers On Private Exchanges Troubled By Employee Communication Challenges
July,18,2014by: ANDREA DAVIS
Early adopters of private health care exchanges shared their experiences this week at EBN’s Private Healthcare Exchanges conference in Chicago, with many reporting employee communication as one of their primary challenges in moving to the exchange model.
Leslie Vander Gheynst, director of KWRI human resources with realtor Keller Williams, which has 100,000 real estate agents across the U.S., says communication and education was “extremely difficult because those agents are not focused on how the health care reform bill is going to affect them.” Keller Williams replaced its mini-medical plans last December and now offers its sales associates (classified as independent contractors, or 1099 workers, for IRS tax-filing purposes) access to a private exchange through ConnectedHealth. iOS vs Android: Which is more of a security threat for the enterprise?

ZD Net

iOS might not be the magnet for malware that Android has become, but that doesn't make it inherently more secure than the Google OS in the enterprise. Apple CEO Tim Cook has poked fun at Google for Android's fragmentation turning devices into a "toxic hellstew of vulnerabilities", but in a new report from Marble Security, the company contends that "neither iOS nor Android is inherently more secure than the other".

Small Business Owners,
Do you want your business to POP! In today's business climate mobility is coming the best way to reach your customers But most mobile apps for business require you to create many different versions of the same app to work with the array of mobile OS's. That can cost you money and time to get that app into the hands of your customers. But what if I showed you how you can get a mobile app for your business that will not only work on all mobile devices, but also work on tablets and PC at no additional cost. Then let me introduce you to WhosPoppin mobile apps.

The WhosPoppin mobile app is different from most other apps because it's developed once and can run on any mobile device, tablet or PC. That in itself would make WhosPoppin one of the best mobile app for your business, but let look closer at the WhosPopin mobile app. most mobile apps will create a mobile version of your business website and allow your customers to visit your page but that's about it. But when WhosPopin develops your app you get links to all social media sites like, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and Pinterest.

WhosPopin also links your email, and phone to the apps. Best of all WhosPoppin allow your visitor to buy directly from your website and post it to their social media sites and the Youtube features lets you stream your video message directly to your customers. Now here the kicker WhosPoppin does this with making jump from app to app like other mobile app developers. Means your customers spend less time look for the right icon and more time doing the things you want them to do online buying from your website. So does WhosPoppin sounds like the mobile solution your are looking for for your business? Do you want to know more? visit our demo site athttp://www.wirehead.whospoppin.com

EHR Incentive Program
Healthcare Professionals Did You Know? Non-hospital-based physicians and other eligible professionals can obtain incentive payments of as much as $44,000 under Medicare or $63,750 under Medicaid. Under both Medicare and Medicaid, eligible hospitals may receive millions of dollars for implementing and meaningfully using certified EHR technology.

About two-thirds (65 percent) of hospitals and 32 percent of office-based physicians plan to enroll in meaningful use programs by the end of 2012 in order to receive the maximum incentives, according to survey results announced Thursday morning. Fewer federal dollars will be available to hospitals and doctors that wait to adopt EHR technology, and failure to meaningfully use EHRs starting in 2015 will result in Medicare penalties.
