Windows XP is ending and You may be at risk of violating HIPAA requirements

Windows XP Support is Ending April 8th let us help You make upgrades before it's too late

Doctors, dentists, insurance companies, basically anyone who deals with confidential customers records, are at risk of being in violation of HIPAA requirements. And it could happen from something as simple as having a single Windows XP system connected to their network! As of April 8th, 2014 Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft.

End of Support (EOS) means that Microsoft will no longer provide the technical support, fixes or security updates for Windows XP. Some of the many risks associated with using an unsupported operating system include:

  • Increased vulnerability to security and compliance risks
  • Hacking and theft of confidential business data
  • Higher costs due to computer downtime
  • Business disruption and potential system failure
  • By transitioning to a supported environment, your customers will have the peace of mind knowing that they have the latest security features and the support to drive their business forward.

Medicare to pay flat rate for clinic visits
    doctorpatient
    Modern Healthcare.com
    Nov,27,2013
    by:+Joe Carlson and Beth Kutscher
Despite criticism from hospitals and doctors, the CMS intends to pay flat rates for Medicare visits to outpatient clinics instead of payments that vary with the severity of the patient's condition. However, the agency decided not to enact a similar policy for emergency-room visits-at least for the time being.
The 1,200-page outpatient prospective payment system rule for 2014, posted the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving, says the agency is changing its longstanding approach to paying for clinic visits because of a widespread concern that the old system encourages upcoding.

    EHR Incentive Program
Healthcare Professionals Did You Know? Non-hospital-based physicians and other eligible professionals can obtain incentive payments of as much as $44,000 under Medicare or $63,750 under Medicaid. Under both Medicare and Medicaid, eligible hospitals may receive millions of dollars for implementing and meaningfully using certified EHR technology.

About two-thirds (65 percent) of hospitals and 32 percent of office-based physicians plan to enroll in meaningful use programs by the end of 2012 in order to receive the maximum incentives, according to survey results announced Thursday morning. Fewer federal dollars will be available to hospitals and doctors that wait to adopt EHR technology, and failure to meaningfully use EHRs starting in 2015 will result in Medicare penalties. Watch this video about how to register for the EHR Incentive program.

Featured Report: Twitter marketing mistakes that will kill your efforts

    BtoB Magazine
    Feb,06, 2013

    by:+Brendan Cournoyer

Social media marketing is a great way for businesses to increase brand awareness, drive traffic and engage directly with customers and potential buyers. And if you work for a b2b company, chances are you already know that. A recent report from the Content Marketing Institute listed social media as the most popular tactic for b2b content marketing. That means it's more popular than blogs, e-newsletters, videos, webinars—everything. Unfortunately, it's also an area where many marketers still fail, especially when it comes to Twitter.

What's a 'Like' Worth? Ask Facebook's Graph Search

    Feb,14,2013
    by:+Clara Shih
"How many 'likes' do you have?" Until very recently, skeptics argued that social marketers were obsessed with building social media followings while unable to articulate the value of a fan. Well, that changes with Facebook Graph Search, which will make the ROI of a Facebook following as easy to measure as SEO efforts on Google. Welcome to the new era of SEO: instead of links and keywords, it's "likes" and "check-ins" that will get your business to the top of the search results. Hailed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg as one of three pillars of the social network (the other two being Profiles and News Feed), Graph Search has the audacious goal of providing relevant search results to a user based on their friends' preferences. For those that haven't been granted beta access to the new feature yet, Graph Search allows users to query their network of friends for their preferences on brands, restaurants, locations, and a variety of other categories. With this new search type, marketers have been challenged with figuring out a new model of SEO to generate business through Facebook.

8 Reasons Why Google Authorship Might be The Most Important Thing You Adopt This Year

    Feb,12,2013
    by:+Rachel McCombie
Each year, webmasters and marketing managers are faced with new developments and technologies, and it can be hard to know which to adopt and which to ignore. But Google Authorship is not one something to casually disregard. Google’s AuthorRank can strengthen the SEO value of pages published by a particular individual and now is the time to climb on board – before your competitors do. This simple HTML tag – built around the rel=”author” or rel=”publisher” command – specifies that a certain individual wrote the page, and this is proved by adding a reciprocal link back to that page or site from their Google+ profile. It’s a fairly elegant way of making the Authorship of online pages provable, but you might be wondering if it is worth the effort of adding it to your own pages. Here are some of the most compelling reasons to consider doing so early in 2013.

    Small Business Healthcare Consortium
    Hello Businesses Owner,

I am writing to you because our changing health care system will have a profound effect on all of us. Now that the election is over and the Supreme Court has ruled, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is not going away. It will not be repealed and it is up to us to make sure it will work for small businesses and individuals as it was intended to do.

That’s why I joined the Campaign for Better Health Care’s newly created Small Business Health Care Consortium (SBHCC). This consortium views the needs of small businesses and their employees as a top priority.

And, as a member of the Steering Committee of the SBHCC I am personally inviting you to join our network of small businesses who know that only through our collective voices that will assure that the Affordable Care Act live up to its goal of making healthcare affordable for all.

Discussions around health reform have been confusing and, sometimes, even misleading. It is the goal of the SBHCC to provide factual information about the changes that are already happening and those coming in the near future. The SBHCC discusses the benefits and opportunities of the ACA and what Illinois small businesses need to do to make sure this law will benefit them.

Many key components of the ACA are national in nature. For instance, small businesses currently providing health insurance to their employees could be eligible for a 35% tax credit. And, while employers with fewer than 50 full time employees are not required to provide health insurance, their employees can take advantage of the ACA’s benefits.

Other components will be implemented at the State level and these decisions will either enhance small businesses or provide another hurdle. One important component is that all states must implement a health insurance exchange (marketplace). These exchanges will include a rate review process with defined, easy to understand plans to consider and review side-by-side.

As small business owners we share many of the same, serious business challenges. It is my hope that you and your small business peers do want to learn more about the ACA. Let’s take this opportunity to act collectively to get control of health insurance costs and improve access to coverage. The opportunity to create positive change is now. It is about fairness and choices for small businesses. To that end I like for you to hear my own personal story about how the new healthcare law will effect me. Please go to this link at Healthcare.gov to see my story Watch My Story

And, then do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or thoughts. I may be reached at wireheadtec@gmail.com or Wirehead Technology

    Sincerely,

Featured Report: 9 Things Apple Could Do with $137B

    Wireless Design and Development
    Feb,11, 2013

    by:+The Associated Press

Apple Inc. has recently come under attack for its practice of stockpiling cash. At the end of last year, the company was sitting on $137 billion —and the heap keeps growing. Corporations normally don't hoard cash the way Apple does. They keep enough around for immediate needs, and either invest the rest in their operations or dole it out to shareholders in the form of dividends or stock buybacks. If they need more cash for, say, an acquisition, they borrow it. Apple has never explained why it is salting away so much money —other than to say the company is preserving its options. The money belongs to shareholders, so Apple is limited in what it can legally do with it. Leaving legality aside, here are some things Apple could do with $137 billion:

Gartner: Samsung's sales dominance overshadowing Android brand

    Feb,13,2013
    by:+Jason Ankeny
Samsung Electronics dominated both worldwide smartphone sales and overall mobile phone sales in 2012, and research firm Gartner contends the manufacturer's brand is now eclipsing Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android brand in the minds of consumers. Gartner reports that Samsung sold 64.5 million smartphones during the fourth quarter, up 85.3 percent over the final three months of 2011. The vendor sold 384.6 million phones last year, with smartphones accounting for 53.5 percent of that total, compared to 28 percent a year earlier. Samsung ended 2012 controlling 22 percent of worldwide mobile phone sales, ahead of Nokia (NYSE:NOK) at 19.1 percent and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) at 7.5 percent. Samsung's closest Android rival, ZTE, follows at 3.9 percent.

Report: Global Mobile Phone Sales Declined 1.7 Percent in 2012

    Feb,13,2013
    by:+Ben Munson
Global mobile phone sales totaled 1.75 billion units in 2012, marking a 1.7 percent decrease to the amount of handsets snatched up by end-users in 2011. According to a new study by Gartner, smartphones rang up the most sales, with 207.7 million units moving in the fourth quarter of 2012, good enough for a 38.3 percent increase annually. Still, Gartner asserts that total sales were down for the first time since 2009. “Tough economic conditions, shifting consumer preferences and intense market competition weakened the worldwide mobile phone market this year,” said Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner. Although feature phones still beat out smartphones with 264.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012, the demand for dumbphones dropped 19.3 annually. Gartner predicts global mobile phone sales to move 1.9 billion units in 2013, with smartphone accounting for one billion of that total.

Why running Android apps on the Surface Pro is bad for Microsoft, Android, and developers

    Feb,12, 2013
    by:+Adrian Kingsley-Hughes
Microsoft just got 750,000 new apps for its Surface Pro tablet without having to lift a finger. This is thanks to BlueStacks releasing an optimized version of its Android App Player for Microsoft's newest tablet. Problem is, plastering over the gaps in Microsoft's app ecosystem by installing an Android emulator is not going to solve anything — and it could make things a lot worse. One of the biggest challenges of releasing a new class of device is setting up an ecosystem of apps to support it. Do it right — as Apple did with iOS, or Google did with Android — and it can be a solid foundation for massive sales.
