Android Malware Claims Blown Out of Proportion?

In recent days, fear has swept across the Android universe as reports raised the prospect of malware attacks and full blown security meltdowns impacting mobile device users everywhere. But that was then. Now, Internet security researchers admit that they may have been mistaken about claims that Android-powered devices were hacked and used to send spam emails. Google, for starters, denies claims that Android phones have been infected with a spam-generating virus. “Our analysis suggests that spammers are using infected computers and a fake mobile signature to try to bypass anti-spam mechanisms in the email platform they’re using,” said Google. RIM to release four BlackBerry 10 smartphones in early 2013

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) CEO Thorsten Heins told investors at yesterday's annual shareholder meeting in Waterloo, Ontario, that the company will launch four BlackBerry 10 smartphones, two high-end models and two mid-range models, early next year. This is the first time RIM has provided specifics about the number of BlackBerry 10 devices it will launch. That tidbit of news was perhaps the only good news to come out of the meeting in which many investors voiced their displeasure with the company's board of directors. Chairwoman Barbara Stymiest promised Investors that the company will make changes to its board of directors and said it has hired an outside search firm to help with the process. According to multiple reports, investors at the meeting said they blame the board for the company's rapid decline in both revenues and market share.

Twitter update brings push notifications to iOS, Android apps

Twitter introduced updated applications for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android, introducing a series of new features highlighted by push notifications for tweets. "You can get notifications from people you follow whenever they send a new tweet or retweet; turn on push notifications for tweets for any user via the action button on their profile and edit these notifications in your account settings on your device," explains Twitter Product Manager Sung Hu Kim, who goes on to suggest that users follow local news organizations and media outlets to keep tabs on what's happening in their city.
