Marketers are constantly debating about whether or not QR codes are beneficial to their marketing efforts. Ultimately, Coca-Cola, Toys R Us and Walmart have proven that mobile bar codes are not only beneficial, but also crucial in driving consumer engagement.
Over the past few years there has been a love/hate relationship with QR codes. Nowadays, the campaigns have gotten more sophisticated and companies are constantly placing mobile bar codes on billboards, bus shelters and products.

Mozilla’s HTML5-based mobile operating system leaped ahead this week thanks to support from a handful of wireless carriers. For marketers, the news has the potential to bring more cost-conscious consumers into the smartphone market and unlock new opportunities. One of the main attractions of a mobile operating system such as Firefox that is built on HTML5 is that it enables the development of smartphones that function at nearly the same level as some of the high-end options currently in the market but at a much lower cost. Such lower-cost devices could be attractive to feature phone owners who are considering whether or not to upgrade.

Short Codes are Not a Scam

I must admit. I got a lot of flak from colleagues for using the word “scam” in my previous post, “Short Codes are a Scam and SMS Marketing is Dying. Is There Hope?“. But let’s face it, controversy captures attention. If you are a mobile marketer, short codes are extremely important to you. It’s critical to the future of my company and hundreds more like mine, that we can engage in a debate, and hopefully change the way things are done. I need my message to reach as many people as possible, and one of the ways to do that is to say something that will get people to listen.

Apple iPad Mini chatter: Why it matters

Apple is reportedly prepping an iPad Mini---a roughly 7-inch version of its juggernaut tablet---and the timing of the chatter couldn't come at a more interesting time.
To wit:
Google's Nexus 7 tablet garners strong reviews. David Pogue at the New York Times, best known for his Apple coverage, rates the Nexus 7 a worthy iPad opponent.
Amazon is rumored to be prepping its next Kindle Fire.
Microsoft talks up its Surface tablet meets laptop concoction.
