According to a new survey spearheaded by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, iPhones have a higher perceived “worth” to mobile users than Android devices do. Based on Munster’s findings, which were highlighted this week in Forbes, the typical iPhone owner says his device is “worth” $313. By comparison, the average Android customer says his device is “worth” only $220. To reach these findings, Munster surveyed four hundred customers around the world. Respondents were asked to assign a dollar value to their respective iPhone or Android device.

Telecom sector leads the way in domestic economic investments

While the domestic economy continues to struggle, a new report shows that the telecommunications space remains one of the biggest investors in attempting to boost the nation’s fortunes. The Progressive Policy Institute report, “Investment Heros: Who’s Betting on America’s Future?,” found that among non-financial institutions, AT&T and Verizon Communications were the two top investors of capital expenditures in the country last year. AT&T took the top spot with a reported $20.1 billion in investments in 2011, with Verizon investing $16.2 billion.

Kindle Fire, Nexus 7 Pressure Apple iPad

As Google's Nexus 7 tablet launches to rave reviews, it appears Apple's death grip on the market could be slipping according to new research from iGR that found a shrinking number of consumers who only consider an iPad. In a November 2011 survey, iGR found that 17 percent of respondents indicated that they would only buy an iPad 3, a group iGR refers to as Apple loyalists. By May of this year, however, that number of respondents who would only consider an iPad had dropped to 7.7 percent, representing a 55 percent drop in the number of Apple loyalists in just six months. "Put simply, there are fewer potential Apple-only tablet buyers today than there were a year ago," Iain Gillott, founder of iGR, said in an interview with Wireless Week. "To me, this suggests that there may be an opportunity for competitors to win buyers to their platforms."
